Bangladesh welcomes New Year 2022

Own representative, Dhaka, January 1: Forgetting all the sorrows and pains of outgoing 2021, Bangladesh welcomed the new year 2022 last midnight with new hope through various programmes. Billions of people across the globe are welcoming the new year amid the Covid pandemic.

Since the outbreak of Corona pandemic two years ago, more than 28 crore 20 lakh people across the world have been infected with the virus. So far, 54 lakh people have lost their lives. Covid infections have been on a rise across the world since mid-October. Another variant of Corona, called Omicron, is raising concerns. Due to the rising Covid infections caused by its Delta and Omicron variants, many countries have cancelled the new year celebrations.

Several instructions were given by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on the occasion of the new year celebrations. In the directive, police also asked people not to hold new year parties in open spaces.

The directive said that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all kinds of events are being celebrated in a limited way in different countries. On 31st night, Dhaka citizens were requested to observe the prescribed programmes in different areas of the capital in compliance with hygiene, precautionary measures and Covid protocols. In the interest of overall security and law-and-order in Dhaka metropolis, no gatherings or celebrations at street crossings, flyovers, roads and open spaces were allowed this year. Authorities also did not allow any gathering, programmes, celebrations or cultural events on the occation of new year celebration in open spaces. Police also banned the use of any type of fireworks or firecrakers to welcome the new year, but the neighbourhood was shaken by the sound of firecrackers at midnight.

On the occation of the New Year 2022, President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina conveyed their greetings to the people in two separate messages.
