Own Correspondent, Dhaka, August 11: Ministry of External Affairs takes a tough stand against Bangladeshi diplomat Kazi Anarkoly, who was brought back from Indonesia. In Indonesia, possession of drugs at home is associated with the image of the country. Therefore, the ministry has said the highest administrative punishment against him in this incident. In the meantime, the ministry has indicated the dismissal of this officer, who is an OSD (Officer on Special Duty).

The matter was discussed in the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Ministry of Foreign Affairs held at the Parliament House on Wednesday (August 10). Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Nurul Islam Nahid, Ghulam Farooq Khandaker Prince, Md. Habibe Millat, Nahim Razzaq and Nizam Uddin Jalil (John) participated in the meeting chaired by Farooq Khan.

After the meeting, the president of the committee, Muhammad Farooq Khan, told reporters that the matter is related to the image of the country. The ministry is also in a strict position about it. In the meantime, he has been OSD. Besides, a committee is working. If the officer is found guilty, the maximum administrative penalty can be imposed.

When asked by the committee how many officials of the Bangladesh Mission of different countries have been taken action against such criminal activities in the past, Farooq Khan said, in the last 10 years, what kind of crimes have been committed by the officials and employees of various missions and what kind of disciplinary action has been taken against them. Information on action taken will be sought. We recommend sending that information to all missions.

Bangladeshi diplomat Kazi Anarkoly was recently arrested in Indonesia along with a Nigerian friend on the charge of keeping the banned drug marijuana at home. She was detained for almost 24 hours in the detention center of the Indonesian Drug Control Authority. She was interrogated there. The diplomat was later released through diplomatic efforts, especially through the generosity of the Indonesian government. Later, the officer was immediately brought back to Dhaka.
