Own Correspondent, Dhaka, August 23: About 14,000-15,000 Bangladeshis who are on illegal or unauthorized visas in Greece will get legalization. Along with that, 4,000-5,000 new workers will be able to go to Greece every year. In this regard, the Cabinet approved the memorandum of understanding between Bangladesh and the Hellenic Republic (Greece) on Migration and Mobility.

This approval was given in the virtual cabinet meeting held on Monday (August 22) under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Prime Minister joined the meeting through a video conference from the Ganabhaban and the Ministers of State from the meeting room of the Cabinet Division of the Secretariat.

Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam gave this information in a press briefing at the secretariat after the meeting.

He said that the Cabinet approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Migration and Mobility between Bangladesh and the Hellenic Republic. This is good news. In view of this MoU, 4,000-5,000 Bangladeshi agricultural labourers or skilled persons can go every year. They will get a work permit for five years. Then it will be increased according to performance or rules, if that is done then there can be more.

He also said that as long as this agreement exists, 4,000-5,000 Bangladeshis will be able to visit Greece officially. And the 14,000-15,000 people, who remain on unauthorized visas, will also get legalization there.
