BCL leader's murder: Nine to be hanged, life sentences for 22

Dhaka, December 9: A court has sentenced nine people to death and 22 to life imprisonment in the murder case of popular BCL leader Shahin Shah in Rajshahi. Judge HM Ilias Hossain of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court pronounced the verdict at around 12:30 pm on Thursday (December 9).

Plaintiff's lawyer Ekramul Haque said that Shahin Shah was killed in an attack by his opponent on August 28, 2013 at noon. This verdict was announced today after 8 long years. All the allegations against the accused have been proved in the court. The lawyer said that he will get the final documents of the verdict next Sunday.

Shahin Shah is the younger brother of Rajshahi City Corporation's panel mayor-2 and ward number one councilor Rajab Ali. Apprentice lawyer Shahin Shah was the former general secretary of Rajshahi Court College Chhatra League. His brother, Juba League leader Nahid Akter Nahan, filed a murder case with the Rajpara police station the next day.

The investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector of Rajpara Police Station Moniruzzaman, filed a chargesheet against 31 people, including Munsur Rahman, the then Ward Councilor of City Corporation No. 1.
