BGB will be equipped with modern technology for enhanced border security: PM Hasina

Dhaka, December 5: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that besides protecting independence and sovereignty, the BGB will be equipped with modern technology to keep pace with the time and prevent smuggling and trafficking of women and children at the border.

The Prime Minister said, "We have entered a modern age. We have built a digital Bangladesh. So, our Border Guard will be equipped with modern technology."

"They will take appropriate measures to protect our freedom and sovereignty, as well as to stop the smuggling, trafficking of women and children at the border," she said. "With this in mind, we have paid special attention to the use of modern technology."

The Prime Minister was speaking as the chief guest at the Border Guard Bangladesh's (BGB) 95th Batch Recruit Basic Training Closing Parade on Saturday morning.

She attended the main event at Border Guard Training Center and College, Satkania, Chittagong via video conference from Ganobhaban.

Sheikh Hasina congratulated all the members of the 95th batch of BGB for successfully completing their training and stressed on maintaining discipline and chain of command.

The Prime Minister said, "It is important to keep in mind that discipline is the most important thing for any disciplined force. So, everyone has to keep that in mind."

"Bangladesh has become independent with that ideology. You have to follow the norm and be fearless in carrying out your duties in obedience to the orders of the higher authorities and work with empathy towards the subordinates as well."

She said, "Everyone will work for the betterment of our country in the future. That's what I want."

Sheikh Hasina said, "This country belongs to us, to you, to all of us. If this country develops, your parents, siblings and future generations will be able to live well. You must always remember that."

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Senior Secretary of the Public Security Department of the Home Ministry Mostafa Kamal Uddin spoke on the occasion from the Home Ministry via video conference.

BGB Director General Major General Safinul Islam delivered the welcome address from the BGB Training Center.

The Prime Minister was accorded a state salute from the ceremony.

In her address, the Prime Minister quoted a significant portion of the speech delivered by Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at the concluding parade of the 3rd recruit batch of this force on 5 December 1974.
