Blockade demanding postponement of HSC exam, several students detained

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 7 August 2023: Protesting students blocked the Shahbag intersection of the capital demanding the postponement of the HSC examination announced on August 17. Police arrested several people from there. At least five to six protesting students were arrested by Shahbag police station at 4:20 pm on Monday.

At 11:30 a.m., the students first took a position at Shahbag intersection. After that, they took a procession and went to Sciencelab intersection and stayed for a while. There, the protesting students blocked the Sciencelab intersection and shouted slogans demanding the postponement of the HSC examination.

Later, they went to Neelkhet intersection and took a position at Sciencelab intersection again in the afternoon. At that time, the traffic on that road was stopped. Around 4 pm, the students went to Shah Bagh intersection and took a stand. The police asked them to move away. When the students did not leave the road, the police arrested several of them.

According to eyewitness sources, the agitating students came down to block the road at Shahbagh intersection around 4:15 pm. They were asked to leave the road by the police. As the students did not agree, the police arrested five-six of them and took them to Shahbag police station.

In this regard, Shahbagh Police Station Inspector Shah Alam said that when the students came down to block the road, they were removed from the road. Some of the protesting students were brought to the police station.

Students say that many of them could not participate in the class examination due to the dengue situation. Besides, many have been infected with dengue. In view of this, they have demanded to postpone the exam by two months. Otherwise they demand to reduce the marks to 50 marks. The students demanded not to take the ICT exam.
