Dhaka, August 5: Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader claimed that the Judiciary was made a party yard during the BNP regime.

He claimed this in a statement on Friday. Meanwhile, he condemned and protested BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's statement on judicial system.

In the statement, Obaidul Quader said that BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir along with their leaders are deliberately making negative comments about the country's independent judicial system. However, as the crime of the corrupt top leadership of BNP has been proven through long criminal proceedings and evidence, they have been punished by the court verdict.

Referring to Ziaur Rahman's introduction of the bad culture of lawlessness in Bangladesh, the General Secretary of Awami League said, Ziaur Rahman had sent four judges into compulsory retirement in violation of the constitution to facilitate the appointment of party judges. Following his footsteps, Khaleda Zia used the judiciary as a political tool. They converted the judiciary into a party arena.

He also said that everything was controlled from Hawa Bhaban. During the tenure of BNP, they even kicked the door of the Chief Justice. A man without a law degree was made a High Court judge and forced to resign after being vindicated.

Regarding the sentence of Tariq Rahman, he said that the representative of the United States intelligence agency FBI came and testified about corruption and money laundering. 40 crores smuggled by the Zia family has been brought back from abroad. Khaleda Jia has also been convicted in court of embezzlement of orphans' money through evidence and in accordance with prevailing law. Corruption cases have been conducted against them following due legal process.

Stating that the government has no link in these cases conducted in the name of BNP leaders, Obaidul Quader said that the case was filed during the caretaker government of One-Eleven. The current government has not intervened in these cases.
