Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 19 January 2024: Awami League General Secretary and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader has commented that BNP's non-participation in the 12th National Parliament election is part of a conspiracy against sovereignty. He said this at a press conference organized at the political office of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina in Dhanmondi on Friday afternoon.

Obaidul Quader said that the election would have been more competitive if BNP participated. However, even in their absence, there was no lack of voters and no competition. The party's non-participation in elections is part of a conspiracy against sovereignty.

Bridge Minister said, "In many countries of the world, even after participation of all parties, voter turnout is not seen above 40 percent. We know, voter turnout is 25-30 percent in many countries, including Europe. And in some places, it is less than that."

He said, "All over the world now a totalitarian crisis surrounds everyone. 30 people have died in snowstorms in the last few days in countries like the United States due to cold current. There is no country that has not been affected by snowstorms. The war continues. Russia-Ukraine war, Sudan's two generals' war, Israel. The war in Gaza is ongoing. Israel's prime minister said it will take months to resolve the crisis, but the war will not stop without the destruction of Hamas."

The road transport minister also said, "The first session of the 12th national parliament will begin on January 30. Because of Sheikh Hasina's bravery, we can claim that there is democratic continuity in the country. Even after the election, terrorists identified as the leadership of BNP are hatching conspiracies."

Awami League Organizing Secretary BM Mozammel Haque, Mirza Azam, Afzal Hossain and Sujit Roy Nandi, Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua, Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan and others were present in the press conference.
