Dhaka, Oct 30: A court denied bail to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and sent him to jail in a case filed at the capital's Ramna Police Station on the charge of vandalizing the residence of the Chief Justice.

On Sunday night, he was brought to the CMM court in Dhaka from the DB office. At that time, he was requested to be detained in jail until the investigation of the case is over. On the other hand, Fakhrul's lawyer applied for bail. After the hearing of both parties, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin refused his bail and ordered to send him to jail.

DB Police arrested BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir from his house in Gulshan in the morning. Earlier on Saturday, before the start of BNP's general meeting, BNP activists broke tree branches and attacked the nameplate and gate of the Chief Justice's residence with sticks. They started throwing bricks inside. A case was filed in Ramna police station in this incident.

Meanwhile, the police filed a case against BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and 59 activists including Mirza Abbas, a member of the party's standing committee, on the charge of vandalizing the Chief Justice's residence. The case was filed at the capital's Ramna police station on Sunday.

Apart from Fakhrul-Abbas, the notable accused in the case are BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khusru Mahmud Chowdhury, Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, Abdul Awal Mintu, Ahmed Khan, Advocate Zainul Abedin, Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Air Vice Marshal (retd.) Altaf Hossain. Chowdhury, Barrister Shahjahan Omar, Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP convener Abdus Salam, VP Zainal, Metropolitan North BNP acting convener Farhad Halim Donor and Member Secretary Aminul Haque.

Earlier on Saturday, BNP leaders and activists attacked and vandalized the residence of the Chief Justice before the start of the BNP's general meeting in Naya Paltan. They broke tree branches and smashed the nameplate of the residence with hand sticks. Throwing bricks inside the building.
