BNP sends letter to DMP seeking permission for discussion meeting

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 17 January 2024: BNP has sent a letter to the Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) seeking permission to hold a discussion meeting on the occasion of the party's founder Ziaur Rahman's 88th birth anniversary.

This letter was sent by the party on Tuesday.

In a letter signed by Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Senior Joint Secretary General of BNP, permission has been sought for a discussion meeting at Engineers Institution Auditorium in the capital on Thursday, January 18. Ziaur Rahman was born on January 19, 1936 in Bagbari, Gabtali, Bogra. He participated in the 1971 War of Independence and returned to professional soldiering after independence. He is the eighth president of the country and former army chief.

On November 7, 1975, Ziaur Rahman became the center of state power. He founded the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP on September 1, 1978. On May 30, 1981, Ziaur Rahman was killed in a coup by a part of the army in Chittagong Circuit House.
