Dhaka, July 14: The government has extended the closure period of borders by 17 more days in order to tackle the coronavirus situation in the country. As a result, the land border with India will remain closed till July 31, Foreign Ministry sources said on Tuesday (July 13) evening.

According to sources, the decision has been taken to keep the border closed till July 31 as per the recommendation sent to the Home Ministry by the Ministry of External Affairs. However, the previous rules will remain in force for the return of Bangladeshis from India.

At the time of border closure, Bangladeshi nationals residing in India will be able to enter the country through approved land ports (Benapole, Akhaura, Hili, Darshana and Burimari) three days a week- Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday- by showing proper documents. However, every returnee must undergo a 14-day mandatory quarantine period.

Bangladesh closed all borders with India from April 26 due to the worsening coronavirus situation in India. Later, the border closure period was extended in several phases.
