UK-Bangladesh British Permanent Under Secretary Sir Philip Burton in Dhaka
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 11 September 2023: Sir Philip Burton, Permanent Under Secretary of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom, arrived in Dhaka on Monday morning on a two-day visit. His visit was mainly to lead the British delegation in the fifth strategic dialogue between the two countries held in Dhaka.
An official of the British High Commission in Dhaka has confirmed the British Permanent Under Secretary's arrival in Dhaka. He said that the Permanent Under Secretary came to Dhaka on Monday morning.
According to the British High Commission, Sir Philip's main goal in this visit will be the fifth UK-Bangladesh strategic dialogue. So that Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen will preside.
This strategic dialogue reflects the UK and Bangladesh's commitment to building a modern economic, trade and security partnership based on the historic relationship between the two countries.
Political and diplomatic relations, economic, commercial and developmental partnerships and other regional and global issues including the Rohingya crisis will be discussed in this dialogue. In addition, this dialogue will create an opportunity to increase economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries and to increase assistance in dealing with the effects of COP28 and climate change. The UK's strong economic development will highlight the investment proposition. During his visit to Dhaka, the Permanent Under Secretary will meet politicians, civil society, businessmen and youth leaders.
