Budget session to start today

Dhaka, June 5, 2022: The eighteenth (budget) session of the Eleventh National Assembly will begin today, Sunday (June 5) at 5 pm.

Last May 16 (Wednesday) President. Abdul Hamid convened the session. The budget for the fiscal year 2022-23 will be presented in the National Assembly on Thursday (June 9), the fifth working day of the current session.

Parliament officials said that this time the use of masks will be mandatory and other health protection rules will have to be followed but there will not be such strictures. This time the members of parliament will be able to enter the parliament only if they have a negative certificate. As in previous sessions, there is no issue of participation of MPs in the meeting on roster basis.

In this regard, the whip of the ruling party Iqbalur Rahim said, "This time we are not doing roster for the members of parliament. Anyone with a coronavirus negative certificate can participate in Parliament.

The previous two-year budget session was short because of the coronavirus situation. The Parliament Secretariat has hinted that the working day will be longer than this. After raising the budget, the MPs will discuss and pass the supplementary budget and the budget for the new financial year. Parliament will pass the budget by June 30 after a month-long discussion.

Four bills have been submitted to the Parliament Secretariat till Saturday for raising in this session. These are the Bangladesh Gas, Oil and Mineral Resources Corporation Bill, the National Freedom Fighters Council Bill, the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (Amendment) Bill and the Judge (Leave, Pension, and Privileges) Bill in the Bangladesh Supreme Court.

Speaker Dr. will nominate the presidency at the beginning of the first day of the meeting on Sunday. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury. He will then raise a condolence motion. In the first day's meeting, the Ministry of Health, Shipping, Religion and Cultural Affairs has a question and answer session and the issue of urgent public interest (Rule 71) is on the agenda. However, between these two activities, raising of question and answer table and rule 71 may be postponed.

The report of Private Medical College and Dental College Bill-2022, Bangladesh Tourism Corporation (Amendment) Bill 2022 will be presented in the first day's meeting.

Besides, on this day Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation Ordinance 1975 will be repealed and new Bangladesh Gas, Oil and Mineral Resources Corporation Bill 2022 will be raised. Later in the meeting National Freedom Fighters Council Bill 2022 will be passed.
