Dhaka, March 1: A case has been filed against BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman under the Digital Security Act for declaring the late President Ziaur Rahman as the father of the nation. Zahidul Islam, deputy secretary of relief and disaster management of Bangladesh Chhatra League's Shahidullah Hall unit in Dhaka University, filed the case with Ramna Police Station.

Sub-Inspector of Police LK Chowdhury confirmed the matter on Sunday (February 28) at the Ramna Police Station's General Registration Branch. He said the case was registered at Ramna police station on Thursday. The next day, the case was sent to the court from the police station. The judge accepted the statement of case and fixed April 12 for submission of investigation report.

The case alleges that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said at a rally in London on the occasion of the 41st founding anniversary of the BNP, "So the leaders who are present at the meeting today, through the camera, through technology, can we decide on the founding anniversary? Our leader Martyred President Ziaur Rahman is the father of the nation of Bangladeshi nationalism."

"Our leader martyred President Ziaur Rahman is not only the father of the Bangali nation, he is also the father of the nation of all communities who identifies as Bangladeshi, including Bangalis and other communities living within the territory of the 55,126 square miles of Bangladesh."

"So, can we all pass a proposal today? It has been decided that martyred President Ziaur Rahman is the father of the nation of Bangladeshi nationalism."

The allegation further states, ‘BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman at the staff meeting gave a bizarre argument containing such fabricated false information with the intention of destabilizing the ongoing stable situation in Bangladesh. He has tried to distort history by spreading misleading information about the father of the nation. This statement of his deliberate distortion of history has been made for the purpose of degrading law and order by creating confusion in the minds of the people.'
