Committee formed to formulate recommendations regarding private vehicles and school buses

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Sept 13: The Ministry of Education has taken the initiative to stop students from travelling to school with private cars to solve the traffic congestion problem in the capital Dhaka. For this purpose, an eight-member committee has been constituted involving the secretary of the Ministry of Education's Directorate Of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) department.

Recently, this committee was formed in a meeting under the chairmanship of the Minister of Education. This committee will make recommendations in a short period of time and submit them. Based on this, decision will be taken later.

According to sources in the meeting, many students travel in private vehicles to various educational institutions in the capital. On the one hand, the traffic congestion on the road is increasing, on the other hand, the fuel consumption is also increasing. Meetings were held to rationalize the use of personal vehicles by students, arrange necessary vehicles, and determine actions to save energy and economize. A committee has been formed there.

The committee convened the Secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Department, representatives of Technical and Madrasa Education Department, representatives of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Director General of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, representatives of Dhaka South City Corporation, representatives of Dhaka North City Corporation, an urban expert and a transport expert.

According to the scope of the committee, a review of the best practices in urban transport, a review of the use of vehicles in the current educational institutions, financial involvement in the transport system of the educational institutions, and the sources of necessary funds are reviewed. Overall consideration has been given to formulating permanent recommendations on reducing the use of private transport and introducing transport systems by schools. The committee has been asked to submit its report within the next 15 days.

Meanwhile, in a recent event, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam said that private cars cannot be brought to school. School buses will be introduced under the management of Dhaka North City for commuting to schools. School bus services will be started in four educational institutions on an experimental basis.
