Census: Women outnumber men by 16 lakhs

Dhaka, July 27: There are more women than men in the total population of Bangladesh. The number of women is 16 lakh 34 thousand 379 more. That is, 98 men against 100 women.

In the last decade, the population of Bangladesh has increased by 2 crore 11 lakh 14 thousand 920 people and now it is 16 crore 51 lakh 58 thousand 616 people. Among them, the number of men is 8 crore 17 lakh 12 thousand 824 people, the number of women is 8 crore 33 lakh 47 thousand 206 people and the third gender population is 12 thousand 629 people.

Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) has released these data in the preliminary report of Census and House Census 2022. This information was presented at the publication ceremony of the first digital census and household census 2022 implemented through BBS under the Department of Statistics and Information Management at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the city on Wednesday (July 27).

Speaker Dr. Shireen Sharmin Chowdhury, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain, State Minister for Planning Dr. Shamsul Alam and others are present as chief guests in the event under the chairmanship of Planning Minister MA Mannan. Dr. Shahnaz Arefin, secretary of statistics and information management department gave welcome speech on the occasion.

The project director presented the preliminary report. Dildar Hossain said, the census showed that men are decreasing compared to women. A total of 16 lakh women are more than men.

According to the BBS census, 11 crore 30 lakh 63 thousand 587 people live in villages out of the total population of the country. And the inhabitants of the city are 5 crore 20 lakh 9 thousand 72 people. The average annual growth rate of population in the country is 1.22 percent.
