Mitu Murder Case Charge sheet filed in Mitu murder case naming her husband Babul Akter as main accused
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Sept 14: The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has submitted a 2,084-page charge sheet to the court, making former Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akter the main accused in the case of his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu's murder.
Six more people have been named as accused in the case. They are - Md. Kamrul Islam Shikder alias Musa, Ehteshamul Haque alias Bhola, Md. Motaleb Mia alias Wasim, Md. Anwar Hossain, Md. Khairul Islam alias Kalu and Shahjahan Mia.
On Tuesday (September 13) afternoon, investigating officer PBI Chittagong Metro Inspector (Inspector) Abu Zafar Mohammad Omar Farooq handed over the case to Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) Kamrul Islam. PBI Superintendent of Police (Metro Circle) Kazi Naima Hasan was present at the time. The next date of the case is scheduled for October 10 in the Metropolitan Magistrate's Court.
PBI Superintendent of Police Naima Sultana, the supervising officer of the murder case, said that the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has evidence that her husband, former Superintendent of Police Babul Akter, was involved in the murder of Mahmuda Khanam Mitu. She said that the charge sheet has been submitted to the court after completing the investigation of Mitu's murder case.
Superintendent of Police Naima Sultana said that the PBI has never gone beyond professionalism and said many times why the murders took place. The rest will be available during the trial in court. Charge sheets have been issued against the accused on the basis of all kinds of evidence.
Babul, Wasim, Shahjahan, and Anwar are among the seven accused in the charge sheet. Ehteshamul is on bail. Musa and Kalu are on the run.
On the other hand, four people have been recommended to be exempted from the case in the charge sheet. They are Saidul Islam Shikder alias Sakku, Nurunnabi, Md. Rashed and Abu Nacher. Meanwhile, Rashed and Nurunnabi were killed in a 'gunfight' with the police the week after the incident.
On June 5, 2016, Babul's wife Mahmuda was hacked and shot dead in the GEC area of Chittagong metropolis while going to drop off her son in the school bus. The next day, on June 6, Babul Akter filed a murder case at Panchlaish police station.
