Chattala Express's coach derails at Sitakunda, rail communication with Dhaka stopped

Dhaka, Jan 3: A coach of a passenger train derailed at Sitakunda in Chittagong. However, no casualty was reported in the accident.

Due to this incident, train movement of that line towards Dhaka has been stopped. The rescue operation has started.

On Wednesday (January 3) around 7 am, the compartment next to the engine of the train named Chattala Express derailed at Siraj Bhuiyar Rastar Matha area in Sitakunda municipality of Chittagong.

Chattala Express train left Chittagong station around 6 am. When the train reached Shuklal Hat Pragati Industries area of Sitakunda, the coach next to the engine derailed. The train then stopped at Siraj Bhuiyar Rastar Matha area, about one kilometer from the derailment spot.

Deputy Inspector (SI) Amjad Hossain, in-charge of Sitakunda outpost of railway police, said that he rushed to the spot after receiving information about the Chattala Express accident, and found the train derailed.

He said that the reason behind the incident will be told by the railway authorities.

Station master of Sitakunda railway station, Mozammel, said, "Rescue operation has started. The Dhaka-bound train movement on that line has been stopped following the accident.”
