Dhaka, March 8, 2022: Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam has informed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina that space is needed for the planned city to build various important facilities including markets and playgrounds.
He made this demand to the Prime Minister by singing some part of the popular folk song 'Parre jaga parne zamin / ghar banaiya ami roi / ami to e ghar na malik'. The Prime Minister also applauded him.
He made the demand at the inauguration ceremony of a development program (Virtual) under the project titled Construction and Development of Road Infrastructure and Drainage System (Phase-I) of 16 newly included wards in Dhaka North City Corporation on Sunday (March 8) morning.
Mayor Atiqul Islam told the Prime Minister that a detailed plan has been drawn up with the help of city planners to build a planned city. We will do ward complex, zonal complex here. The complex will house a community center, community clinic, ward office, library and cultural center.
Addressing the Prime Minister, Mayor Atiq further said, “We mean a planned city - playground, park, bus-truck terminal, kitchen market, raw market, slaughter house, cattle market, sanitary land field, secondary transformation station, public toilet, graveyard. , Mosques, places of worship. We must take our place to do these things. The total estimated cost for the development of this new area is estimated at Tk 26,536 crore. Initially, you (Prime Minister) have given a grant of Tk 4,025 crore. I would like to thank you again on behalf of the locals for this.
He said, ‘All I said was - playground-park; It takes space for us to do these things. There is a song, I am the owner of this house by building the next land next place / I am not the owner of this house. Honorable Prime Minister, I am not the owner, you are the owner of the house. I'll tell you, if you want to park for this area, if you want to park the truck, if you want to play; Not a single place in these new wards is in the hands of the City Corporation. These are with every organization, with different ministries. You said you would build a city, that's why you made these new words. You give us our place, we promise, we can do it all at our own expense. '
