Child Daycare Centre Act 2021 effective from September 1

Dhaka, August 30: The government will be implementing the 'Child Daycare Centre Act, 2021' from September 1.

On Sunday (August 29), the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs issued an order announcing the effective date of the law.

The order, signed by Md Saidul Islam, secretary of the Ministry of Women and Childrens Affairs, said the government had fixed September 1 as the effective date of the Act, in accordance with sub-section (2) of section 1 of the Child Daycare Centre Act, 2021.

After the final approval of the cabinet on February 8 and later the law was passed in the parliament in the form of a bill on June 16, the gazette of 'Child Daycare Centre Act, 2021' was published on June 24.

According to the act, no child daycare centre can be operated without registration.

Operating a center without registration is punishable by a maximum of 2 years imprisonment or a fine of Tk 5 to 10 lakh or both.

According to the law, if any any child goes missing from a child daycare centre, the latter (authorities) will face up to 10 years in jail or a fine of up to Tk 5,00,000.

If a child's health is endangered or harmed during his/her stay at the centre due to negligence of duty, the centre (authorities) will be punished with imprisonment for a maximum of 2 years or a fine of Tk 2 lakh or both.

The law stipulates that a person will be punished with a minimum of two months imprisonment or a maximum fine of Tk 50,000 or both for cruelty to a child at the centre.
