Dhaka, September 19: In addition to stopping violence against children, more investment is needed in their development, said Saima Wazed, chairperson of the Shuchona Foundation and advisor to the Director-General on Mental Health and Autism at the World Health Organization. She said this while joining the First National Conference on Child Protection Bangladesh-2022 virtually at a hotel in the capital on Monday (September 19) morning.

Saima Wazed said, "Now the family structure is changing. Still, adverse behavior towards children is observed. We need to work together for children, they are our future. Be more aware of them. Every child can learn if they are supported. It is not only necessary to create an environment for them."

She said, "It is necessary to invest in the development of children. We don't want to realize what happens in Bangladesh. Children need open space to play, if there is no open space where will they play? These are having a negative impact on their development. Every child has potential."

"The environment should be created for the children to grow up nicely. Children don't create the environment, we do, so we have to be aware. If you can create a beautiful environment, children will become the wealth of the country," she added.

"Recently, more attention has been given to enrolling children in school. Now 98 percent of children attend school, but, now it is necessary to focus on quality education. Many students are dropping out, we also need to look into that. It is not enough to be smart in the class, human values should also be created in them," Saima Wazed said.
