China opposes external interference in Bangladesh: Xi Jinping

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 24 August 2023: Chinese President Xi Jinping said that China opposes external interference in Bangladesh. At the same time, he also said that Beijing supports Bangladesh in protecting national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

Chinese President Xi Jinping made these comments in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. China's state-owned media CGTN reported this information in a report on Wednesday. According to the report, the 15th BRICS Summit is underway in Johannesburg, South Africa and the bilateral meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was held on the sidelines of the summit on Wednesday evening local time at Hotel Hilton Sandton.

In the meeting, the Chinese President said that Beijing supports Bangladesh in protecting national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. In order for Bangladesh to maintain internal unity and stability, China also opposes external interference in the country. China also supports Bangladesh to achieve development and revival.

In addition, Xi Jinping called on both sides to increase cooperation in infrastructure, information technology, new energy and agriculture in other fields. Noting that China and Bangladesh enjoy traditional friendship, Xi said the two sides upgraded bilateral relations to a strategic cooperative partnership in 2016, indicating the deepening of cooperation between the two countries.

Currently, both China and Bangladesh are at an important stage of their own development and revitalization. The Chinese side is keen to strengthen coordination of development strategies with Bangladesh, deepen practical cooperation in various fields, and take the bilateral strategic cooperative partnership to a new level. China also believes that these will mainly benefit the people of the two countries.

In a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Chinese President called for strengthening high-quality Belt and Road cooperation between Dhaka and Beijing. Xi Jinping said China is willing to continue working with Bangladesh to firmly support each other on issues related to the core interests of both countries. He said the two sides should strengthen strategic communication and close exchanges in various departments and at various levels. In addition, Xi Jinping called for more personnel exchanges between the two countries as well as deeper cultural and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
