Bangladesh Chinese national Zhang Ji Zhang arrested in Dhaka for social media loan scam
Dhaka, 26th November 2023 : Cyber crime department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) have arrested 15 members of the gang including a Chinese citizen on charges of fraud.
The detective police arrested them in separate operations after investigating the cases filed at Hatirjheel and Kafrul police stations of the capital.
The arrested Chinese national was identified as Zhang Ji Zhang.
DMP Additional Commissioner (Detective) Mohammad Haroon Or Rashid told reporters in front of the DB office on Saturday afternoon.
If someone downloaded this Chinese app by stepping into the trap, they will be in danger.
After downloading the app, all the important information, including photos, videos of the mobile, went into the hands of the cycle.
The gang members then used them for blackmail.
First they try to directly scare the victim in various ways. If he could not find him, he would make and send offensive pictures to the numbers of family, relatives and acquaintances including parents.
Similarly, they were given the opportunity to earn 800 to 2000 taka a day at home on mobile phones and WhatsApp. Various people were lured by sending such SMS.
And the victims are destitute by stepping into the trap of this temptation.
The detective chief said that during the operation, the information of 29 mobile banking accounts in different SIMs was obtained from them.
In the last six months, more than 50 crore rupees have been laundered using these mobile banking accounts.
According to preliminary information, at least 200 crores of taka have been smuggled out of the country in the last two years. At least one and a half thousand people have been cheated by this gang so far in the country.
The app is made by Chinese citizens.
Its server is in Singapore.
And the call centers are in Bangladesh and Pakistan.
The gang used to ensnare with little money and loot lakhs of rupees. In this way, they stole 8 lakhs from one victim. They used offensive pictures to send threats to various people. 15 members of the gang have been arrested. But many others are involved in the cycle. They are hiding. The campaign is ongoing.
