Dhaka, Dec 25: Today (December 25, Monday) is 'Christmas', the biggest religious festival of Christians. Jesus Christ, the founder of this religion, was born on December 25 in Bethlehem. Christians celebrate this day as 'Christmas'.
People of the Christian community believe that Lord Jesus came to earth to lead mankind to the path of truth and justice by preaching the glory of the Creator. Like other countries of the world, the Christians of Bangladesh are also celebrating 'Merry Christmas' on this day with proper religious solemnity and rituals, festivity and prayers.
On this occasion, the religious institutions of Christians all over the country, including the capital Dhaka, have been decorated in a new style. Besides, arrangements have been made for lighting decorations in various churches and star hotels from Sunday evening. Meanwhile, on the occasion of Christmas, President Md. Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages wishing peace and welfare to all.
Today is a public holiday on the occasion of Christmas. On the other hand, on the occasion of the day, in many Christian families, cakes are prepared, there are special food arrangements. Also religious songs are organized in many parts of the country along with kirtan.
Many in the Christian community choose Christmas to visit relatives. Many have left the capital for their village homes to share the joy with family members. Along with lighting decorations in the star hotels of the capital, Christmas trees and Santa Clauses have been artificially installed inside the hotel. Special prayers were also held in various churches on Sunday night on Christmas Eve. And the Christmas prayer has started from Monday morning.
