Dhaka, April 20: Hefazat Joint Secretary General Maulana Mamunul Haque has been implicated in a case filed in connection with the Narayanganj riots. CID chief barrister Mahbubur Rahman told reporters at his office at noon on Tuesday (April 20).

Earlier on Monday (April 19), the court granted a seven-day remand in a case filed against Mamunul Haque at the capital's Mohammadpur police station. He was arrested on Sunday (April 18) from Jamia Rahmania Madrasa in the capital's Mohammadpur around 12:30 pm.

The CID has been tasked with investigating 23 cases filed against Hefazat-e-Islam. Among the cases, 2 were in Narayanganj, 15 in Brahmanbaria, 2 in Kishoreganj, 2 in Chittagong and 2 in Munshiganj. These cases have been filed on various charges including murder, explosives and sabotage.

The CID chief said Hefazat-e-Islam had set fires, set fires, blockaded and called for strikes in the name of enforcing demands across the country from the end of March to April. Which is unjust according to the conventional law. "We have so far investigated 23 cases. We will investigate according to the existing law. We have forensic, DNA, experienced investigation officers, cyber experts. If there is any involvement of Mamunul Haque in these cases, if you want to know whether he will be remanded "We initially got his involvement. He is on remand in a case. When that is over, we will remand him," he said.

Asked in which case the CID was involved, he said his involvement was initially found in a case filed in Narayanganj. "We are studying all the cases. Legal action will be taken if we get his involvement in any other case. We have multiple teams working. It may be mentioned that two cases have been filed against the leaders and activists of Hefazat-e-Islam under the anti-terrorism law on March 29 in Siddhirganj of Narayanganj. Mamunul Haque has been made an accused in the cases."
