Dhaka, December 12: Awami League General Secretary and Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader has said that the communal groups have committed unforgivable crimes like damaging the sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman due to BNP's indulgence and patronage.

He was speaking at a function organized by the party's relief and social welfare sub-committee at the Awami League president's political office in Dhanmondi on Friday morning to distribute coronavirus protection materials at various religious and voluntary organizations and every divisional headquarters in the country.

The bridge minister joined the ceremony via video conference from his official residence.

In response to BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's statement, "Extremism is on the rise due to lack of democracy", he said "The rise of extremism in this country took place at the hands of the BNP."

Obaidul Quader asked the BNP secretary general who helped extremists like Bangla Bhai and Shaykh Abdur Rahman grow and under whose rule serial bombings were carried out at different movie theatres across Bangladesh.

Slamming BNP on the issue of democracy, Quader asked how did extremism sustain during the former's tenure.

The Awami League general secretary said that the BNP had created religious extremism to stay in power and to eradicate the spirit of liberation war from the country.
