Dhaka, April 17: Today is April 17, Saturday. Historic Mujibnagar Day. For the second time after independence, Mujibnagar Day is celebrated on a small scale. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, all the events were closed and the district administration and the district Awami League observed this day on a limited scale.

The day's program started at 6 am on Saturday with the hoisting of the national flag at the Mujibnagar Memorial. Meherpur Deputy Commissioner Dr Mansur Alam Khan hoisted the national flag. Meherpur Additional Superintendent of Police Jamirul Islam and Ansar VDP were present at the time.

After hoisting the national flag, a minute of silence was observed in the memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and prayers were offered for the forgiveness of the souls of the heroic martyrs.

Besides, on the occasion of Mujibnagar Day at 10 am, Whip of Jatiya Sangsad Joypurhat-1 MP Abu Saeed Al Mahmud Swapan will pay homage with flowers on behalf of Bangladesh Awami League Central Committee at Mujibnagar Memorial.

Besides, Joint Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Member of Parliament for Meherpur-1 constituency and State Minister for Public Administration Prof Farhad Hossain are expected to be present on the occasion.
