Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 20 October 2023: Bangladesh will observe a one-day state mourning over the death of Palestinian citizens in the brutal attack by the occupying Israeli forces. A notification has been issued by the Cabinet Department on Thursday (October 19) announcing state mourning next Saturday (October 21).

It said that state mourning will be observed for the deaths of Palestinian citizens in recent barbaric attacks by the Israeli occupation forces in other parts of Palestine, including Gaza. On the occasion of national mourning, special prayers will be held in all mosques of Bangladesh for the peace of the souls of the dead and the well-being of the injured on Friday (October 20). Special prayers will be organised in other religious institutions, the notification said.

The notification also said that on Saturday (October 21), the national flag will be at half-mast in all government, semi-government and autonomous institutions and educational institutions and in all government and private buildings and Bangladesh missions abroad.

The Palestinian organisation Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7. Since then, Israel has been carrying out indiscriminate airstrikes on Gaza. Hundreds of Palestinians are losing their lives. At least 500 people lost their lives in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza's Al Ahli Arab Hospital, the Ministry of Health said.
