Country to honour 10 people, one organisation with Independence Award

Dhaka, Marhc 15: In recognition of the glorious and meritorious contribution at the national level, 10 eminent persons and an organisation are receiving the Independence Award 2022. A list of nominees for the Independence Award has been released in a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Tuesday (March 15).

In the "Independence and Liberation War" category, five people will receive the award. They are: freedom fighter Ilias Ahmed Chowdhury, martyr Colonel Khandaker Nazmul Huda (Bir Bikram), Abdul Jalil, Siraj Uddin Ahmed and the late Sirajul Haque.

In the "Medical" category, Professor Kanak Kanti Barua and Professor Md Kamrul Islam will receive the Independence Award.

Late Md Amir Hamza and late architect Syed Moinul Islam will get it in the "Literature" and "Architecture" category, respectively.

The Bangladesh Wheat and Maize Research Institute is receiving the award for "Research and Training."

This is the highest state award in the country. The government has been giving this award every year since 1977 on the occasion of Independence Day on March 26.

The awardees get Tk5 lakhs in cash, an 18-carat gold medal of 50grams, a replica of the medal, and a certificate.
