Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Oct 11: The corona vaccination programme for children aged between 5 to 11 years at the district and upazila levels of the country has been started from Tuesday (October 11) morning. This programme will continue for the next 12 days.

Under this programme, children will be given Pfizer Bayantech Community vaccine, a specially formulated pediatric formulation. A target of vaccinating 120 million children across the country has been set.

On Monday (October 10), Member Secretary of the Corona Vaccination Management Committee, Shamsul Haque, told the media that school-based vaccination of children will start on this day. Later it will be given at the community level. Two doses of this vaccine are to be taken eight weeks apart. Meanwhile, the registration of children of the mentioned age limit is starting through the Suraksha web portal or app.

17-digit digital birth registration number should be used for registration. After registration, vaccination can be taken from a vaccination center set up in a nearby school and later from a community-level (out-of-school children) centre on showing the vaccination card.

Even if child protection registration is not possible due to any reason, corona vaccination will be given through line listing.

He said that the vaccination programme will start at 9 am every day. However, the head/representative of the educational institution, the district primary education officer, the upazila education officer, and the health-family planning officer or the municipal authority will discuss and coordinate the timing of vaccination.

The official of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) also said that one day after this programme, a vaccination programme will be conducted simultaneously at the community level across the country to bring children aged 5-11 years who are out of school at the district and upazila levels under vaccination.
