Dhaka, April 3, 2022: April may be the month of disaster. This month may experience severe thunderstorms, hailstorms, heat waves, cyclones and floods.

An expert committee formed by the Meteorological Department has given this forecast to give a long-term forecast. The committee held regular meetings on Sunday (April 3) at the Meteorological Department's Dhaka Storm Warning Center and via video conference.

Director of the Department and Chairman of the Expert Committee. Azizur Rahman presided over it.

According to the expert committee's forecast report for the current month, there is a possibility of normal rainfall in the country as a whole in April. This month, there may be 2 to 3 days of moderate or severe thunderstorms with thunder and hail in the northern, north-western and central parts of the country and 3 to 5 days of light or moderate thunderstorms with hail and hail elsewhere in the country.

This month, 2 to 3 mild (36 to 38 degree Celsius) or moderate (36 to 40 degree Celsius) heat waves are expected in some parts of the country. The daytime temperatures are slightly higher than normal and the nighttime temperatures are expected to be normal, the expert committee said.

According to the report, 1 to 2 depressions are likely to occur in the Bay of Bengal this month, one of which could turn into a cyclone. Short-term flash floods are expected in some parts of the country in April.

Azizur Rahman, chairman of the expert committee, said there was less than normal rainfall across the country in March. No rainfall was recorded in Rajshahi, Barisal and Khulna divisions. Due to the connection of Pubali winds with the western light pressure, some places in Sylhet, Mymensingh and Rangpur divisions received showers with temporary gusts of wind / thunderstorms during March 24 and 26 to 31 March. Due to the low temperature in the western part of West Bengal and adjoining areas of Bangladesh, from March 15 to 20, 23 to 26 March, mild heat wave prevailed in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions. At this time, the highest temperature of the country was recorded at 36.5 সেল C in Rajshahi on 19 March.
