Cyclone Sitrang: Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Barisal airports to remain shut

Dhaka, October 24: Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Barisal airports have been closed due to Cyclone Sitrang. The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) issued a circular on Monday (October 24) afternoon giving instructions in this regard.

According to the circular, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Barisal airports will remain closed due to Cyclone Sitrang. The closure order will remain in effect from 3pm today to 12pm on October 25 (Tuesday). However, whether the airport will open on Tuesday or remain closed will be announced tomorrow morning.

Flight operations at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport are normal (till the time of writing this report). Shahjalal International Airport Executive Director Group Captain Md. Kamrul Islam said, "There has been no flight delay due to the cyclone so far. We are always in touch with the Meteorological Department, taking regular updates. Flight operations are normal for now."

Cyclone Sitrang is gradually approaching the Bangladesh coast. In the meantime, its impact has started to fall in Bangladesh. The center of the cyclone is expected to cross the Barisal-Chittagong coast through Khepupara region of Bangladesh on Tuesday morning.
