Cyclone Sitrang claims 15 lives in nine districts

Dhaka, Ocotber 25: Cyclone Sitrang has lost strength and weakened. The Meteorological Department says that Sitrang has now turned into a land depression after weakening due to heavy rains. The cyclone crossed the Barisal-Chittagong coast near Bhola on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. The impact of Sitrang brought gusty winds and heavy rains in the coastal districts. Several people have lost their lives in various parts of the country due to accidents due to gusty winds and rain.

At least 15 deaths were reported in 9 districts till 2 pm on Tuesday. This number may increase further. Three members of the same family were killed when a tree fell on a house in Comilla's Nangalkot.

According to the police, a tree fell on Nizam's house in the gusty winds of Cyclone Sitrang on Monday night. Nezam and his wife were killed on the spot.

An old woman was killed when a tree fell on her house in Barguna due to strong winds due to Sitrang. This incident happened on Monday around 8 pm. A woman named Safia Khatun (65) died in Shariatpur's Jajira after a tree fell on her house due to the impact of Cyclone Sitrang. A housemaid named Morjina Begum (40) died after a tree branch fell due to heavy rain and gusty wind in Lohagara of Narail.

The incident took place on Monday afternoon in the vicinity of the Upazila Parishad Chattwar Palli Savings Bank. The deceased's son has been assured of assistance by the district administration.

A mother and son died in a boat sinking in the Yamuna river canal between Purbamohan and Shilpa Park of Sadar Upazila of Sirajganj Sadar Upazila. This incident happened on Monday (October 24) around 9 pm.

Cyclone Sitrang in Bhola killed three people in Bhola after being crushed by trees and houses. Houses, crops and fish sustained damages.

In Tungipara of Gopalganj, two women were killed when a tree fell on their house in the gusty winds of Cyclone Sitrang on Monday night. The deceased are Sharmin Begum (25), wife of Rezaul Khan of Panchkahnia village of the upazila and Rumicha Begum (65), wife of Hannan Talukdar of Banshbaria village.

A child named Sanjid Afridi Adi (1) died when a tree fell on his house in Noakhali's Suvarnachar due to the strong winds of Sitrang. A young man named Zainal Abedin Bhuiyan (26) died when a tree fell on his house during the storm in Kasba of Brahmanbaria. The incident took place at Dhwajnagar village of Gopinathpur union of the upazila at 12 am on Tuesday (October 25).
