Decision to cancel state titles of Bangabandhu killers finalised, gazette to be issued soon

Dhaka, June 2: The decision to cancel the state titles and medals of Bangabandhu's four assassins has been finalised. Gazette will be issued in this regard soon. Liberation War Affairs Minister AQM Mozammel Haque made the remarks in response to a question from reporters before attending a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order at the Secretariat on Wednesday (June 2).

He said, "The decision to cancel the state titles and medals of four murderers of Bangabandhu has been finalised. You will get to now the decision once the gazette is published. I don't want to comment before that."

Earlier, at the 72nd meeting of the National Freedom Fighters Council (Jamuka) on February 9, it was recommended to cancel the state titles of BNP founder Ziaur Rahmanand the four self confessed killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Shariful Haque Dalim, Nur Chowdhury, Rashed Chowdhury and Mosleh Uddin are self-confessed killers of Bangabandhu. At the same time, the Awami League is claiming that Ziaur Rahman is behind this murder.

After independence, Ziaur Rahman was given the title of 'Bir Uttam' for his contribution to the War of Liberation. Besides, Shariful Haque Dalim got the title of 'Bir Uttam', Nur Chowdhury got the title of 'Bir Bikram', Rashed Chowdhury got the title of 'Bir Pratik' and Mosleh Uddin got the title of 'Bir Pratik'. A three-member committee headed by Jamuka member and MP Mosharraf Hossain was also formed to take a final decision on the cancellation of their titles.
