Dhaka, April 7: At Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the modern VVIP terminal built in the 80s for domestic and foreign heads of government is being demolished. After independence, VVIP passengers, including the Prime Minister, have been travelling to different countries and states using this terminal of the airport.

Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) officials said that the terminal built in the 80s has now become a hindrance to the third terminal construction project at the airport. This is why it is being demolished. On the other hand, another terminal worth about Tk 20 crore is being built at the airport for VVIP passengers.

It is known that one of the various mega projects of the current government is the construction of the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The cost of which has been estimated at Tk 21,398 crore. However, due to the increase in the prices of all the current items, this construction cost is increasing by several thousand crores of rupees. About 68 percent of the construction project has already been completed. Some parts of this project will be inaugurated next October.

CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mofidur Rahman said that the VVIP terminal is part of the reconstruction project of the third terminal of the airport. Because of this, the work of breaking it has started on Thursday.

Abdul Maleq, chief engineer of CAAB, said that a state-of-the-art VVIP terminal is being constructed at the airport for VVIPs. Its construction is underway on the north side of the airport international terminal building at a cost of around Tk 20 crore. Meanwhile, most of its construction work is completed.

He said, now only the finishing work is left. VVIP passengers can use it only after this work is completed.
