Dengue claims 19 lives in a single day

Dhaka, July 20: Nineteen people have died of Aedes mosquito-borne dengue fever across the country in the last 24 hours till 8 am on Wednesday, which is the highest single-day death toll due to dengue this year. During this time, 1,792 people were infected and hospitalized. From January 1 to July 19 this year, 146 people have died and 25,792 people have been infected.

This information was shared in the dengue report signed by Dr. Md. Zahidul Islam, in charge of the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday.

According to the DGHS, 922 residents of Dhaka and 870 people outside Dhaka are among 1,792 people admitted to various public and private hospitals due to dengue infection in 24 hours from Tuesday (July 18) to Wednesday (July 19) 8 am. Among the infected, 1,790 people have been discharged from the hospital in the last 24 hours. Among them, 978 are residents of Dhaka and 812 are outside Dhaka.

On the other hand, among the 19 people who died in 24 hours, 17 people are from Dhaka and two from different areas outside Dhaka. However, the DGHS has said that today's report has been adjusted subject to the receipt of some previous death reports in Dhaka city.

From January 1 to July 19 this year, a total of 25,792 people were affected by dengue. Among them 16,398 residents of Dhaka and 9,394 residents outside Dhaka. So far 20,094 people have recovered and returned home. Among them 12,915 people in Dhaka and 7,179 people outside Dhaka.

Five thousand 552 people are currently receiving treatment in various public and private hospitals of the country due to dengue. Among them 3,370 people in Dhaka and 2,182 people outside Dhaka.
