Dhaka, July 11, 2021: Aedes mosquito-borne dengue infection is on the rise in Dhaka city along with corona.

Last month, the number of dengue patients admitted to the hospital was 261. And in the first 10 days of July, the number of patients has exceeded three hundred. The increase in the number of patients at the beginning of the month is a clear indication of an increase in dengue outbreaks in the capital.

In the last one day, 48 dengue patients have been admitted to various government and private hospitals in the capital. With this, the total number of patients in different hospitals of the capital is 18 people. A dengue patient has been admitted to a hospital outside the capital.

On Saturday (July 10), the Assistant Director of the Health Information Unit (MIS) of the Department of Health and the officer in charge of the Health Emergency Operations and Control Room, Dr. Kamrul Kibria gave this information.

Director of the Department of Health (Infectious Diseases Control) Professor. Md. A number of health and pathologists, including Nazmul Hasan, have said that the increase in the number of dengue patients during high corona infections is becoming a 'death knell'.

They said the current rainy season is the breeding season for Aedes mosquito-borne dengue. Due to the intermittent rain at this time, water accumulates in different places. Dengue mosquitoes breed in buildings under construction and in abandoned buildings, roofs, courtyards, flower tubs, abandoned coconut shells, car tires and refrigerated ACs. So if clean water is frozen, it should be discarded. Dhaka North and South City Corporation is conducting mobile courts in different areas and from house to house to prevent the spread of dengue. Besides, activities are underway to create public awareness.

From January 1 to July 10 this year, a total of 63 patients have been admitted to the hospital due to dengue. Of these, 32 were admitted in January, nine in February, 13 in March, three in April, 43 in May, 271 in June and 302 as on July 10. Of the admitted patients, 494 have already recovered and returned home.
