Dhaka, June 22: Security has been beefed up at the entrances of Dhaka centering on the strict lockdown in seven surrounding districts. Long-distance vehicles are not allowed to enter or exit. Even if one or two vehicles tried to move, they were punished.

On Tuesday (June 22) morning, a check post was set up at the Rayerbagh bus stand in the Jatrabari area of the Dhaka-Highway, one of the entrances to Dhaka. The buses plying on this highway in Dhaka were seen but there were no long distance buses.

A Tisha Paribahan bus plying on the Dhaka-Kompaniganj-Nabinagar route was stopped by police at a checkpost around 9.30 am while crossing the highway. Police then filed a case against the bus.

Demra Traffic Zone Sub-Inspector (SI) Vishnu Sharma on duty at the check post said, "There are instructions that no long distance bus can leave from Dhaka and no bus can enter Dhaka. We are implementing those guidelines."

"Basically, long distance buses are not running in Dhaka except for vehicles. If one or two buses leave, we are suing them," he said.

At this time only law and order and emergency services pertaining to agriculture (fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, agricultural machinery, etc.), food grains and food transport, relief distribution, healthcare, Covid-19 vaccination, electricity, water, gas / fuel, Fire service, port (river port) activities, telephone and internet (public-private), media (print and electronic media), private security, offices related to other urgent goods and services, including postal service, their staff and vehicles and freight trucks / lorries will remain outside the scope of the ban, the cabinet secretary had said earlier.
