Dhaka, Jan 11: The new government in Bangladesh needs more international cooperation to make the country poverty and hunger free by 2041. This is why cooperation, support and partnership are essential in today's world.

Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen said this at the 'meet and greet' programme organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in honour of foreign diplomats posted in Dhaka at National Guest House Suganga in the capital on Wednesday afternoon.

Momen said, "We expect more cooperation this year and beyond."

At that time, US Ambassador Peter Haas, Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen, Russian Ambassador Alexander Mantitsky, United Nations Resident Coordinator Gwen Lewis and high commissioners and ambassadors of various countries were present. Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were present in the event.

"The 12th National Assembly election also marks the continuation of the politics of a democratic Bangladesh - a strong commitment to contribute to regional and global peace and security and countering radicalization and extremism with the aim of eradicating terrorism and international development," the briefing note read.

The note was also distributed among diplomats.

"With the beginning of the new government, Bangladesh is ready to further enhance cooperation with its neighbors to ensure the continued economic prosperity of South Asia through the development of greater regional security, integration and connectivity. Sunday's election was important to maintain a smooth democratic transition process in the country as per the constitution," the note read.
