Dhaka, March 19: Quoting the Vienna Convention, the High Court commented that no foreigner, including US Ambassador Peter Haas, can speak about the internal judiciary system of Bangladesh.

The court said diplomats should be cautious when talking about pending matters. On Monday (March 18), Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Ibadat Hossain's High Court bench made this comment.

Recently, Peter Haas said, 'The US is closely monitoring the progress of the cases against Dr. Yunus and his colleagues. We are concerned that these cases may represent misuse of labor laws in Bangladesh.' ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan brought the matter to the attention of the High Court referring to Peter Haas's statement as contempt of court.

Then the High Court asked him to know, if an ambassador makes a contemptuous statement about the pending matter, can the court take any action or not? Then lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said, the court cannot draw contempt proceedings against any ambassador or diplomat and cannot summon them. But you can give observation. The court then said that diplomats should be cautious when talking about pending matters.

Recently, the US Embassy in Dhaka gave a status about Dr. Yunus on their official page on social media Facebook. It is said that the United States Ambassador to Dhaka, Peter D. Haas, is honored to host Bangladesh's only Nobel laureate and economist, Dr. Muhammad Yunus. It was also written that the US is closely monitoring the progress of the cases against Dr. Yunus and his colleagues. We are concerned that these cases may represent abuses of Bangladesh's labor laws.
