Dhaka, December 23: Awami League General Secretary and Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader has said that the distribution of Teesta waters may happen soon.

"The bridge of trust and confidence that has been built between Bangladesh and India has made positive progress in discussing the Teesta issue and water sharing in other rivers. The distribution of Teesta water may happen soon," Quader said.

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami visited the Awami League's central office on Bangabandhu Avenue on Wednesday (December 23). Obaidul Quader told reporters after his visit.

Obaidul Quader said, "The relationship between the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the government of Narendra Modi of India has passed the test of time. Many unresolved issues can be easily resolved with good understanding with neighboring countries, as evidenced by Bangladesh and India. Peaceful enclave exchange solution to the long-standing border issue has further enhanced mutual trust between the two countries. The friendly attitude of India without appealing in the case of Bangladesh's sea conquest has further strengthened the relationship."

He said, "The friendship between Bangladesh and India has passed the test of time and is bound by the blood of '71. This relationship between the two countries has passed the test of time. Bangladesh-India relations are now warmer, more amicable and development-oriented than at any time in the past. The bridge between the two countries is being raised to a new level day by day."

Noting that talks are underway between the two countries on the issue of stopping border killings, the Road Transport and Bridges Minister said, "Meetings are underway between the two countries on border killings. I hope to succeed in bringing the killings at the border to zero. The governments of the two countries are very sincere about stopping border killings."

While visiting the Awami League office, Vikram Kumar Doraiswami exchanged greetings with the party leaders. He later met with members of the party's presidium and joint general secretaries. Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswamy said, "The friendly relations between Bangladesh and India are bound by blood. Today's good relations were initiated by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation of Bangladesh. As a result, the relationship between the two countries has become stronger which will be even stronger in the future."

During the meeting, Vikram Kumar Doraiswamy said that the Government of India would extend all possible assistance to Bangladesh in getting corona vaccine. He said the Awami League has a lot to contribute to today's relations between India and Bangladesh. The Awami League has lost many leaders and workers due to coronavirus. He wishes peace to their disembodied souls.
