DMP denies permission to 'anti-independence' Jamaat rally, warns to take strict action if they try to gather

Dhaka, Oct 28: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has allowed Awami League and BNP to hold rallies at their preferred locations. However, the anti-independence Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami did not get permission to hold a rally at Motijheel Shapla Chattar in the capital. Even after that, if the Jamaat attempts to hold the rally, the police will take action against them.

DMP Joint Commissioner (Operations) Biplab Kumar Sarkar confirmed the fact that Jamaat-e-Islami was not allowed to hold a rally on Friday night.

He said that Awami League and BNP have been allowed to hold rallies at their preferred places under 20 conditions.

When asked whether Jamaat-e-Islami was given permission to hold a rally, he said, Jamaat-e-Islami was not given permission to hold a rally at Shapalachtar. Legal action will be taken if they try to hold a rally. However, Jamaat-e-Islami said in a press conference on Friday that they will hold a rally.

Meanwhile, DMP's Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime and Operations) Dr. K. Mahid Uddin said that the Dhaka Metropolitan Police is in the legal frame while talking to reporters at his office at the DMP's headquarters on Friday night.

"We are in place of valid legal framework. Everyone should remember to respect the existing laws of the state," he said.
