Doctors to be allowed to see patients in government hospitals for a fee: Health Minister

Dhaka, March 27: The government will be allowing the government doctors to see private patients in the hospital after their working hours. Health Minister Zahid Maleque said that this 'institutional practice' will start from March 30. He also said that this practice can be done from 3 pm to 6 pm.

On Monday (March 27) in the meeting room of the Ministry of Health at the secretariat, he informed the journalists after the meeting regarding 'end-of-life healthcare for government doctors'.

The health minister said, "We are trying to launch this institutional practice as a pilot project from March 30. First, we will start this program in some district and upazila hospitals."

He said, first this practice will start in 10 districts and 20 upazilas. Doctors can tend to patients from 3 pm to 6 pm. Nurses and technicians will also work two days a week. Their remuneration is fixed for the services they render. Doctors will get a part of it, others will get the rest. The government will also get a share.

He also said that generally a senior doctor's (professor) fee is Tk 500, but he will get Tk 400. A senior consultant will get Tk 300. An assistant professor will get Tk 200 and those who will help will will get Tk 50.
