Dhaka, July 23: Dr. Krishna Rupa Majumder, Associate Professor, Department of Surgery, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University has urged citizens to play their part and follow Covid-19 guidelines to stem the flow of the virus. During a Facebook Live session, the doctor said health professionals alone cannot prevent the coronavirus if citizens don't take responsibilities.

"I have performed my duties earlier too, but it wasn't this horrific. Everyone is suffering. You won't believe the number of people who could die due to oxygen if you do not see it with your own eyes. There is oxygen supply for all, even then, their lungs do not have the ability to take it, due to weakness," the doctor explained.

Dr Krishna, who spoke wearing a PPE kit, said, "We perform our duties wearing this dress [PPE kit] in a congested place without air-conditioning. It is difficult to breathe through this dress. We endure a lot of hardships. We have been treating patients since the outbreak of the pandemic, yet, no soultion has been found till date."

The doctor warned about rising cases following Eid.

"It will be difficult to allot beds to every patient. I have seen young people, pregnant women suffer. I urge everyone with folded hands, please don't assume that it's only upto doctors and front line health workers, the battle against the coronavirus is a collective war. I don't know when it'll end," Dr Krishna said.

"After treating so many [Covid-19] positive patients, how can i can back home to my family members- this is the bitter truth every doctor and health care professional has accepted. Where does this end? It ends only if you become aware. Come and meet a coronavirus patient. I have personally treated around 100 patients today, you cannot meet eye with their family members. You have seen this yet, but you certainly won't- only God can provide that guarantee," the doctor said.
