Dredger sinking in Mirsharai: Bodies of eight workers recovered

Dhaka, October 27: One by one, the bodies of the eight workers who died in the Dredger sinking in the sea of Mirsharai, Chittagong, were recovered. Last Thursday (October 27) at 10 am, after the recovery of the body of Bashar Howlader (35), the operation was declared over.

Mirsrai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Kabir Hossain said that the last body was recovered at 10 am on Thursday. Through this, the bodies of the eight missing workers were recovered.

According to the investigation, the body of Mr. Al-Amin Fakir, son of Rahman Fakir, was first recovered at 9 o'clock on Tuesday night. The bodies of Imam Hossain Molla, son of Anich Molla, Mahmud Mahmud Molla, son of Abdul Haque Molla and Md Zahid Bari, son of Sekandar Bari, were recovered together on Wednesday morning. The body of Nuru Sardar's son Alam Sardar was recovered at 11 pm on the same day.

After that, between 9 am and 10 am on Thursday, another son of Anich Molla, Shahin Molla, Rahman Khan's son Tarek Molla and lastly Yusuf Ali Howlader's son Bashar Howlader were recovered.

Abdullah Harun Pasha, deputy assistant director of Chittagong Agrabad Fire Service and Civil Defense, said that the bodies of eight workers who were missing in the dredger sinking have been recovered. After completing the rescue operation at 10 am, the dead bodies were handed over to the upazila executive officer.

In this regard, Mirsarai Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Minhazur Rahman said that after the rescue operation, it was possible to recover the bodies of all the workers who were missing in the dredger sinking in the sea. The bodies were recovered after many ups and downs from the scene since the accident. Meanwhile, the bodies of the four persons recovered earlier have been handed over to their families. The bodies of the remaining four will also be handed over after some time.

Before that, the eight workers went missing under the influence of Cyclone Sitrang at around 8 pm on Monday. All their homes are in Char Jainkathi village of Patuakhali Sadar Upazila.
