Dhaka, April 23: Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) introduced point system against driving license. Twelve points allocated per license. Demerit points will be deducted for committing an offense under the Road Transport Act. There is a chance to get points back. Driving license will be revoked or suspended if the level of crime increases and 12 points are deducted. Once the license is revoked, the person cannot apply for a driving license again.

BRTA says, in the meantime, in some areas of the country, the work of deducting points for violating traffic laws has started on an experimental basis. If a person with a driving license violates the law, he will be fined as per the relevant law, and the police traffic sergeant can deduct points from the person's license. These points can be deducted if you break 13 traffic laws.

Driving license officials say that if a driver does not violate the rules for six months, the driver can get two points back on appeal. A driver will get two more points if he does not violate the rules for six consecutive months. But drivers cannot appeal points for two years after losing eight points.

BRTA is developing a specialized software to deduct driving license points. Software work has already started. If the software is ready within the next two months, the work of deducting points will start simultaneously across the country. The traffic department of BRTA and police hope that order will return on the road.
