Dhaka, October 28: Former Governor of Bangladesh Bank and eminent economist Prof. Dr. Atiur Rahman has commented that the efforts of the international community to repatriate the Rohingyas are very limited. He made the remarks while addressing a virtual conference titled "Culture of Inclusive-Tolerance in the Development of Greater Civil Society Organizations" on Wednesday afternoon.

Dr. Atiur Rahman said, "There is a kind of racism and conflict with the global vaccine. While Bangladesh, with its limited capabilities, has sheltered millions of Rohingya, it is certainly a matter of pride for us. However, the efforts of the international community to repatriate the Rohingya refugees are very limited. It's a huge blow to our economy, but we're committed to protecting their dignity."

He also said that Bangladeshis are moving towards a moral and just society.

At the conference, the representatives of the civil society expressed the view that for the sustainable development of Bangladesh, a united social force as well as a critical civil society should be given the opportunity to develop by giving priority to dissent. Besides, for the sustainable development of Bangladesh, social capital has to be built on the four principles of the 1971 Liberation War.

He called on international organizations to meet the international commitments of the Grand Bargain, Development Effectiveness and the Charter for Change.
