Dhaka, Nov 17: A Commonwealth Election Assessment Mission is coming to Dhaka on November 18 for a five-day visit to monitor the upcoming national elections in Bangladesh. Besides, an expert mission of the European Union (EU) is coming to Bangladesh to observe the elections soon.

Spokesperson of the ministry Seheli Sabrin gave this information at the weekly briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday. Asked whether any country or organization has applied for election observation, the spokesperson said that the four-member European Union (EU) expert mission will come to Bangladesh in a few days to observe the election. Besides, an election assessment mission of the Commonwealth will stay in Dhaka from November 18 to 22.

Seheli Sabrin said, it is known from the commission sources that a few more interested observer groups have applied for monitoring the national elections.

Meanwhile, Election Commission (EC) Secretary Md. Jahangir Alam said that the ballot paper will be printed after the allocation of symbols. And three-four days before the election, the ballot will reach the district level.

Election Commissioner Md. Alamgir said that it is being considered to send the ballot papers of the next 12th National Parliament election in the morning of the polling day. He said that the EC can adopt this strategy so that there is no abuse in the paper ballot election.

When asked about this, the EC Secretary said that it has not been decided yet when the ballot paper will go to the polling ground. The Commission has not yet informed about the decision in this regard. Jahangir Alam, when asked whether he is feeling political pressure and transfer of appointments since the announcement of the schedule, said that it is clearly stated in the RPO that the government will have to approve some matters during the election period. It has been said that in case of transfer of Deputy Commissioner, DMP Commissioner and their subordinate officers, prior approval of EC should be taken.
