Every division to have BKSPs, upazilas to have stadiums: PM Hasina

Own representative, Dhaka, December 10: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that a sports academy will be set up in every Division of the country to facilitate proper training of players. She said, "We have already decided to set up one sports academy in each Division. Of these, two new BKSPs [Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan] have been approved and we will do the rest. So that our boys and girls can get good training there."

The Prime Minister said this on Thursday (December 9) afternoon, while addressing the function of the prize awarded ceremony of the 'Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman National Gold Cup Football Tournament (Boys Under-18) and 'Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib National Gold Cup Football Tournament (Girls Under-18) -2021'.

The Prime Minister was virtually connected in the main event of Kamalapur Bir Shrestha Shaheed Sepahi Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium through video conference from Ganobhaban.

Prime Minister noted that sports and exercise are essential for the proper development of the young generation. "As a developing country, we are a role model of development in the world today. In no case do we want to lag behind. Bangladesh is a victorious nation in the war of liberation, and as that victorious nation we will walk with our heads held high in the world arena."

Referring to the future of today's young athletes, she said, "I know that as long as we can keep our children involved in sports and culture, they will not go astray, they will not get involved in drugs and militancy. I want to be a healthy person by studying and playing sports."

In her address, the Prime Minister said that the Father of the Nation had paid special attention to sports even during the reconstruction of the war-torn country after independence. He founded the Bangladesh Football Federation in 1972 and also formed the Sports Regulatory Authority.

Prime Minister virtually enjoyed some parts of the second half of the final match of the Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib National Gold Cup Football Tournament, (Girls Under-18) from Ganobhaban. Rangpur Division won the title by defeating Mymensingh Division 1-0.
