Own Correspondent, Dhaka, August 19: Urging the Hindu community not to consider themselves as a minority, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that all people will enjoy equal rights in this country regardless of caste and religion. "We want people of all our religions to live here with equal rights. Everyone has equal rights on the soil of this country, you have the same rights as I have."

She said this while exchanging greetings with leaders of Janmashtami Celebration Parishad and Bangladesh Puja Celebration Parishad on the occasion of 'Janmashtami' on Thursday (August 18) afternoon.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined the Janmashtami celebrations at Dhakeshwari Temple in the capital and JM Sen Hall in Chittagong through video conference from Ganabhaban.

At that time, the Prime Minister said, "I will tell the Hindu community, you are the people of this country; Don't consider yourself as a minority and think that you are citizens of this country. So you will enjoy equal civil rights and we want to see you in the same way."

She said, "Never bring any inferiority in your mind. Because all of you who are citizens of this country are the owners of the country and all have equal rights as citizens."

Sheikh Hasina added, "If you can continue with this confidence, then evil people will not be able to do any harm. And evil people exist in all religions. So this unity and trust should exist among all and you will proceed with that, that is what I want."

The Prime Minister said that a 'group' does not believe in the independence of the country. They keep trying to destroy religious harmony. There are people who do this in all religions.

Mentioning that the Awami League government is cautious about this, she said, "Whenever there is an incident on religious issues, the Awami League government has taken immediate measures. However, it is criticized at home and abroad. They only criticize the government without talking about the steps it takes to prevent these incidents."

Stating that Awami League does not believe in the policy of humiliating anyone, Sheikh Hasina said that it is not right to speak by hurting someone's religious sentiments. People of all religions will enjoy equal rights in the country.
